For over 65 years, Dade Legal Aid (DLA) has provided a safety net of free civil legal services to disenfranchised residents, families and non-profit groups in Miami-Dade in all areas of civil law including family law, child advocacy, domestic violence, guardianship, landlord/tenant, foreclosure and bankruptcy law. Through its pro bono department, “Put Something Back” (PSB), thousands of pro bono attorneys are paired with qualifying clients in need of representation in all areas of law.
DLA serves 6,000 clients annually using varied delivery models including direct representation, pro bono attorneys, pro se clinics, hotlines and community education.
Securing Safety for Victims of Domestic Violence- Free legal services to 1,000’s of bilingual victims of domestic violence, abuse and sexual assault; providing advice, representation and enforcement of restraining orders impacting the lives of innocent children.
Providing Stability to Children and Families- Represents 1,000’s of families in complex divorce and custody proceedings, directly affecting 1,000’s of children and continue representing older teens aging out of foster care providing safety and security. Handle divorce, custody, visitation, support and name change cases and serve as GAL in contested custody proceedings.
Educating Clients to Avoid Homelessness- Represents 1,000’s of clients in foreclosure, housing and bankruptcy matters including protecting individuals from unlawful eviction during foreclosure actions. These clients are unable to be served by other providers due to their eligibility status. Pro Bono attorneys are necessary to handle these cases.
Put Something Back- Matches 1,000’s of dedicated pro bono attorneys with clients in need in all areas of civil law. 1,000’s of clients were matched with pro bono attorneys. Collaborations with 100’s of dedicated Law Firms, Bar Associations, Specialty Bars, Law Schools, Corporate Counsel, Greater Miami Jewish Federation Attorney’s Division, Arts Business Council, etc.
